Surfaces – Residency at Chisenhale Dance Space, 2008
Surfaces functioned both an installation and a performative environment at different times of the day.
It was open for a week for the public and included a solo performance by Jessica, a duet with Felicity Croyden and a public workshop/performance led by Jessica.
Workshops were led by Eeva-Maria Mukta, Florence Peake and Jessica. They included community workshops for schools, for people with disabilities, the Sadler’s Wells Company of Elders and BA students from The Place school of Contemporary dance.
Onto the dance floor of Chisenhale Dance Space the public walk on to a stage of objects. It gave an effect of stepping into a surreal habitat, atelier and gymnasium for integrative improvisation.
As an installation it drew on the atmospheric places created within Jessica’s performances and imagined energy of the objects collected. This created an environment for the public to experience and dance with and within.
Made with artist and performer Felicity Croydon.
